Ellem Plays Politics, Ignores the Facts
After the announced closure of the South Grafton meatworks, the Labor Candidate has been caught being economical with the truth for political gain. Nationals Candidate for Clarence, Chris Gulaptis has today asked him to think of the families involved in the situation and work together towards an assistance package.
“I was disappointed to read Peter’s comments in the paper today about the job losses. At a time when we should all be working together to help the workers, he seems more intent on getting himself a new job than helping out.” Gulaptis said
“He knows that the Illawarra fund he referred to was largely funded by the Labor Federal Government he works for and had smaller contributions from the State Government and the companies involved. If he wants to duplicate that in this area I am all for it. All he has to do is pick up the phone to his boss and get the Prime Minister on board.”
“To put politics ahead of people at this stage is wrong and someone who wants to represent them should know this.”
“The NSW Government has a Regional Industries Investment Fund that is available to help businesses in Clarence and has already been on the ball seeking local meetings to see what assistance may be required.”
“I want to help not only these workers but also get a real plan together for jobs in our community so that our children don’t have to leave Clarence to find work. I am more than willing to work with Peter and anyone else who has any ideas to help this happen.”
“I have asked for a meeting with the Chamber of Commerce to see if we can organise a job summit for Grafton that will include all three levels of Government as well as local businesses and residents. I will be happy to take these recommendations down to Parliament if I am lucky enough to be elected in November.”
“It is only by putting minor differences aside and working together that this electorate can begin to thrive again.”
