bon mot. She thinks that the idea that women who stay at home to raise their
children or working women who earn $1,200 a week (before tax) or less have no
calibre shows him up as a budding eugenicist. Maude wonders if his father’s family - hailing
from England as it does – were fans of British
Eugenics Society before they
bailed out of that country in the early days of World War Two.
