How dumb is Liberal Frontbencher Christopher Pyne?

Answer: As dumb as proverbial dog sh*t!

Today's
Age reports that Pyne, the Liberal Party Federal Member for Sturt (SA), holds the view that the electoral system should be changed so that if a member of the House of Representatives retired, his [sic] party could choose a replacement to see out the term.

What a coincidence! Pyne is running with this line at a time when a number of coalition rats are gearing themselves up to jump ship despite having stood before their electorates not so long ago and declared their intentions of representing those electorates for the term of the current parliament.

Yes, Christopher, the election was only as far back as 24th November 2007.

Already, Peter McGauran, a Nationals' MP, has pulled the plug and created a vacancy in the Victorian seat of Gippsland.

Who'll be the next rat? Will it be Pyne's fellow crow eater, the out-to-lunch Member for Mayo, Alexander (of fishnet tights fame) Downer? Or, will it be the Nats' Mark Vaile, who has already done a spot of moonlighting?

Sorry, Christopher, but if your colleagues are not prepared to go the distance of a full term in Opposition and you would have electorates saved the expense of a by-election then a more palatable solution could be to have the candidate who finished second in the election fill the vacancy.

Of course, we could always require retiring MPs to fork out and contribute towards the expenses of the by-election.

I can't agree more to your description that he is "As dumb as proverbial dog sh*t!" and he highlights this regularly. More importantly though is that Christopher Pyne is a dangerous man.

My main beef with him is his continuing support for the Howardesque styled Zero Tolerance drug policy. The self important moralising of Howard, Bishop and co has faded since the election but Pyne seems hell bent on keeping up the rhetoric. I recently read how Dr Alex Wodak, a drug & alcohol specialist, suggested that marijuana be brought under the control of the government to be taxed and regulated like alcohol and tobacco. Pyne's response was more evidence that he is "s dumb as proverbial dog sh*t!".

He replied:
"I don't accept that. I don't think you should regulate poison because it would be easier to manage it if you did. This is a poison and it's destroying our young people. It's affecting their mental health and the idea that governments should somehow get involved in it, regulate it, tax it, control the strength of it and then spend that money that's raised in taxation as though it was any other kind of revenue raising tool, I think, is an abomination".

Err, hello?? What the hell do they do with alcohol and tobacco now?

He came very close to being unseated this time. I would hope that he is gone next time. What a nutty idea, although this happens with Senators who don't complete their terms.
