ITV Studios Australia allegedly failed to enforce mandatory stay-at-home public health order on its film crew while in the NSW Northern Rivers region

The twin diseases of 'exceptionalism' and 'entitlement' have been found lurking amongst visitors to the NSW Northern Rivers region yet again......

ABC News, 21 September 2021:

The COVID-19 case that sparked the lockdown on NSW's North Coast was a member of a film crew attached to reality show I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!

The state government announced on Tuesday that the local government areas (LGAs) of Byron and Tweed would enter a snap seven-day lockdown after a woman tested positive for the virus.

The woman was an authorised worker but it is understood she did not follow stay-at-home orders while in the area.

The production company behind I'm A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! confirmed one of its crew had contracted the virus.

The series is being filmed in the Northern Rivers…..

"The crew member is fully vaccinated and was wearing PPE while at work."

The production spokesperson said all close contacts of the crew member had been identified and were isolating while they awaited their test results.

"We are working with NSW Health to ensure all necessary steps are taken in relation to contact tracing, testing and further communication to anyone that needs to isolate," they said.

NSW Police said contact tracing was underway and authorities would investigate any alleged breaches of the Public Health Order.

The infected woman arrived in Ballina on Saturday morning at 8.45am on Virgin flight 1141.

Health authorities said the person was infectious over the weekend and on Monday in the Byron, Ballina and Tweed areas.

Northern NSW Local Health District (LHD) acting chief executive Lynne Weir said the Kingscliff Beach Hotel on Marine Parade was the only close contact venue identified so far, but health authorities expected to list more.

"We believe that Byron Bay will have quite a few sites, so that is an area of concern for us," she said…...

A 20 September Northern NSW Local Health District media release revealed the woman allegedly drank at the Kingscliff Beach Hotel at 102 Marine Parade, Kingscliff on 19 September 2021, between the hours of 4:00pm – 9:00pm.

As a result; Anyone who attended the following venue at the times listed is a close contact and must get tested and isolate for 14 days since they were there, regardless of the result. NSW Health sends a text message to people who have checked in at close-contact venues with further information.

At the time she entered the hotel the ITV Australia employee had been in the area for less than 9 hours, however her infectious state was not known until two days later on 20 September 2021.

UPDATE

NSW Police, News, 22 September 2021:

A woman has been charged over multiple alleged breaches of the Public Health Orders in the state’s north.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District commenced inquiries yesterday (Tuesday 21 September 2021), after receiving information a woman from Greater Sydney had travelled to the area and since tested positive for COVID-19.

Inquiries revealed the 31-year-old woman had been granted an exemption to travel to the area for work-related purposes only.

She allegedly attended several businesses and venues in Byron Bay and Kingscliff over the weekend, which was in breach of the conditions of her exemption.

Further, she failed to check-in at those locations using the QR codes.

The Rushcutters Bay woman was issued with a Court Attendance notice today (Wednesday 22 September 2021), for five counts of fail to comply with electronic registration directive.

She is due to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 8 November 2021.

Inquiries continue.

From Sydney to Ballina and onto the Gold Coast carrying a COVID-19 infection with him

The Daily Telegraph, 25 July 2021:

An airline employee who has since tested positive for Covid-19 transported an infected man from the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport, it has been revealed.

Queensland deputy premier Steven Miles said a Qantas flight attendant, who Queensland health authorities reported as a positive case on Friday, drove a man who was infectious from Ballina on July 14.

He said the infected man was now in Queensland but was recorded in New South Wales statistics.

Mr Miles said it is believed the flight attendant caught the virus from the man after he left Sydney.

(The man was) tested on July 12 because they were a close contact,” Mr Miles said.

The details of what happened from then are a bit complicated.”

Mr Miles echoed NSW authorities by saying the man should have been in isolation from that time.

This is notwithstanding the fact Sydney remains in lockdown.

It does appear though there was a lab error in their initial results,” Mr Miles said.

This result returned a negative result for the man and, although he was meant to remain in isolation, he flew to Ballina on July 14 on Virgin flight VA1139.

They were then collected from Ballina airport by the flight attendant that we reported positive in Queensland on Friday,” Mr Miles said.

She picked up that passenger from Ballina airport and drove him back to Queensland.

So it does appear that the flight attended we reported on Friday caught Covid from the passenger on this flight to Ballina.

Both these positive cases have been active in and around Brisbane and the Gold Coast.”….

It’s clear that those two people now have been out and about in Brisbane and the Gold Coast since July 14,” Dr Young said…...

He was tested on July 12 following identification of a workplace contact,” Dr McAnulty said.

He said the man initially received a test result from a private lab which returned a false negative.

He was required to isolate for 14 days regardless of the result of that test.

But he flew to Ballina on July 14 before travelling into Queensland, Dr McAnulty said.

Dr McAnulty said authorities were advised the man’s swab was positive on July 20.

He said NSW Health “immediately contacted and interviewed” the man.

He stated he had been isolating since the 10th of July however we know this is not true,” he said.

We’re working with our colleagues in Queensland Health and have referred the matter to NSW Police.”….

Echo NetDaily, article excerpt, 26 July 2021:

Forty-five travellers from Sydney are being urged to get tested for COVID-19 and continue self-isolation on the Northern Rivers after sharing a flight with a confirmed case.

Acting Northern NSW Health District CEO Lynne Weir confirmed Monday the travellers were all supposed to have been self-isolating anyway as they were under public health orders to follow stay-at-home rules applicable in Sydney.

The passengers caught a Virgin flight from Sydney to Ballina on 14 July: flight VA 1139.

Australia not as tolerant of British far right nutters since global COVID-19 pandemic entered its second year

IMAGE: ABC News, 18 July 2021

The Guardian, 18 July 2021:

British far-right figure Katie Hopkins has been dumped as a cast member of Seven’s Big Brother VIP and will leave the country after breaching her contract, Guardian Australia can reveal.

Hopkins, 46, broadcast a live video from what she claimed was a Sydney hotel room on Saturday morning, describing Covid-19 lockdowns as “the greatest hoax in human history” while joking about elaborate plans to breach quarantine rules.

On Saturday home affairs minister, Karen Andrews, ordered an urgent review of whether Hopkins has breached her visa conditions by publicly flouting quarantine rules.

But the review has been superseded by a decision to terminate her contract, Guardian Australia understands.

Talent contracts have an out-clause: don’t bring the network into disrepute.

It is also a requirement of any overseas personality to comply with visa conditions.

Seven confirmed the decision on Sunday afternoon.

Seven Network and Endemol Shine Australia confirm that Katie Hopkins is not part of Big Brother VIP,” the network said. “Seven and Endemol Shine strongly condemn her irresponsible and reckless comments in hotel quarantine.”

Hopkins was contracted to Shine rather than Seven.

Last year, Hopkins had her Twitter account with 1.1m followers permanently suspended for violating the platform’s “hateful conduct” policy.

Hopkins, who was repeatedly retweeted by former US president Donald Trump, was removed to “keep Twitter safe”, according to the social media platform.

Hopkins previously compared migrants to cockroaches and claimed the photograph of a dead Syrian boy lying on a beach that sparked a wave of compassion across Europe was staged, as well as stating that people with dementia should not “block” hospital beds…..

UPDATE

Sounds like Ms. Hopkins is on her way back to the U.K. as I write.....

NSW Police, NewsMonday, 19 July 2021 04:21:23 PM:

Police attached to the hotel quarantine operation were notified of an alleged breach of the Public Health Order (Covid-19 Air Transportation Quarantine) at a hotel on Sussex Street, Sydney, about 8.45pm on Friday (16 July 2021).

NSW Police assisted Australian Border Force with the transfer of the woman to Sydney International Airport this afternoon (Monday 19 July 2021), following the cancellation of her visa, departing to the United Kingdom.

A travel company has been issued a $5000 PIN for breaching a public health order after taking three busloads of tourists to a zoo in the state’s west yesterday.

About 9.30am (Monday 28 June 2021), three buses arrived at the zoo on Obley Road, Dubbo.

On board were 128 staff and guests – at least 76 of whom were not permitted to travel outside Greater Sydney under the current public health order.

Staff at the zoo refused to allow the travellers off the buses and police were called.

Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District attended and spoke to tour operators, establishing the group had left Sydney last Friday (25 June 2021) and had continued to travel throughout regional NSW after the Public Health Orders were updated on Saturday.

The guests were directed to return home immediately and the tour company has been issued a $5000 PIN.

State Emergency Operations Controller, Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys, said the company owner told police he was aware of the public health orders but decided to continue the tour as planned anyway.

But the staff at the zoo did exactly the right thing – they isolated the risk and alerted police. They did a great job to protect the local community,” Deputy Commissioner Worboys said.

Investigations into further possible breaches are continuing.

In other incidents, a man and woman have been charged with offences including assault after they allegedly refused to check in with a QR code when entering a restaurant at Forster.

About 7.15pm yesterday (Monday 28 June 2021), the couple attended the Wharf Street restaurant and were asked by staff to sign in using the QR code.

They refused and were informed they would have to leave if they did not comply. It is alleged the man again refused and picked up a bottle of water and threw it against a wall, smashing it.

The man was escorted from the restaurant and it is further alleged the man punched the owner, a 39-year-old man.

The woman allegedly bit a 44-year-old man who was attempting to intervene, causing bleeding and bruising to his bicep.

The owner sustained facial injuries and a suspected broken nose and was taken to Manning Base Hospital.

The man and woman left the restaurant; however, officers from Manning/Great Lakes Police District arrested both a short time later, and took them to Forster Police Station.

The 34-year-old man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray, intimidation and malicious damage.

The 27-year-old woman was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. They were granted conditional bail and are expected to appear in Forster Local Court on Wednesday 28 July 2021.

They were each issued $1000 PINs for fail to comply with noticed direction re section 7/8/9 – COVID-19.

In total, 34 PINs were issued yesterday and of those 16 were $200 infringements for failing to wear a fitted face covering.

Police continue to appeal to the community to report suspected breaches of any ministerial direction or behaviour which may impact on the health and safety of the community.

Two men are among 44 people issued with PINs for breaching a public health order yesterday, after they had to be rescued from the Royal National Park at Otford.

About 6pm (Sunday 27 June 2021), the men called for assistance after becoming lost in bushland during a visit to a remote beach.

Police Rescue assisted by the State Emergency Service, NSW Ambulance and Polair responded to the area, locating a 30-year-old man naked and carrying a backpack on the walking track near Lady Wakehurst Drive.

After a further search, a 49-year-old man, partially clothed, was also located. The men told police they were on a nearby beach when they ran into bushland after being startled by a deer.

They were taken to St George Police Station and issued $1000 PINs for breaching the current public health order prohibiting those from Greater Sydney travelling outside the region.

In other incidents, a café operator has been charged and is subject to strict bail conditions after being found allegedly breaching the public health order at Shellharbour.

About 9.40am, officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended a café in Addison Street responding to reports staff were failing to comply with the current public health orders.

When officers arrived, they saw neither the staff or the operator were wearing face masks; the operator was reminded of her obligations under the current health orders but allegedly refused to comply.

The two staff members were warned and complied, putting masks on; however, a 38-year-old woman was arrested. She was taken to Port Kembla Police Station where she was charged with fail to comply with notice direction (not wear fitted face covering in retail/business premises), and operator not ensure hospitality workers wear fitted face coverings.

She was given bail conditions to strictly comply with the public health orders and not to incite or encourage others to defy them. She is due to appear in Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday 21 July 2021.

In a third incident, police stopped a car on the Hume Highway at Goulburn and spoke with the driver, a 33-year-old man from Ermington. He was issued with a $1000 PIN and was directed to immediately return to Sydney.

Police have received hundreds of calls from the public over the weekend reporting potential public health order breaches, and would like to thank the vast majority of the community for their cooperation with the new rules.

In total, 44 $1000 PINs were issued yesterday and of those four $200 infringements were issued for failing to wear a fitted face covering.
